Keep it PHOTOGRAPHY!

Ok so I went off on a tangent and posted some political stuff yesterday that has since been deleted. After posting my political ish I was told by 2 little birdies that a blog ought to be one track minded.. can you say minded?? anyway.. I digress..
After reflecting on the fact that I have to keep it photography I have decided that I will try to post at least 30 images a week and blog specifically about photo related things.. which brings us to this post..

Today 3.31.10 my daughter and I tagged along with the Mount Vernon YMCA to the Barnum Bailey Circus at MSG, and I had one of the most fun shooting days ever.. Yes I shot the kiddies and the circus but those shots are personal, my real fun came while shooting all NYC has to offer out of the foggy scratched up oddly tinted bus windows.. those are the very images I am going to share here with you.. they are not night shots, hell they are not even photoshopped, just straight from my camera to you.. I would like to call this suite of images "NYC from the Window of a Cheese Bus"..

Enjoy!

Some more inspiration

Ok so I watched Erykah's video for Window Seat for the first time today and I love it! I wish I could have been the photographer on that video shoot!!! She looks amazing, but more than that the message is so great, especially the last words she says at the end. You have some cojones Ms. Badu.

just in case you were wondering who Matt and Kim are here they are in their video Lessons Learned that inspired Ms. Badu... btw I wouldn't have minded being the photog for this video either...

Inspiration

I have been asked a lot lately what inspires me. In conversation I tend to get tongue tied because there are too many things to name. I figured that I would start to share some of my biggest influences here. My inspiration comes to me from everything, I am inspired by books, documentaries, movies, events, colors, light, mood, etc etc.. So as I am consciously inspired by things I will add them to this blog.

Perhaps more than anything else the environment really ignites something within me. I was a part of a group called Earth Force as a child and we flew to Washington D.C. to meet Al Gore before he was V.P. I was also a Girl Scout and so a love of the outdoors was cultivated in me early. I also grew up loving science and actually started college as a biology major, with the intent of becoming an obstetrician, however at 17, the age I started college, I was not interested in devoting the necessary time to chemistry that it would have taken for me to pursue that path. I digress, this documentary on the environment entitled HOME is one of my favorite documentaries for many reasons, the narrative is brilliant and the cinematography is visually delicious. If you find yourself wanting to watch a movie please watch this. It is amazing.

Here's where you can see it for free on youtube.

If you do watch it, please let me know what you think. This movie is a heavy influence in my thesis work.
